David Whyte-Sweet Darkness

“Sweet Darkness” “When your eyes are tired the world is tired also. When your vision has gone no part of the world can find you. Time to go into the dark where the night has eyes to recognize its own. There you can be sure you are not beyond love. The dark will be your womb tonight. The night will give you a horizon further than you can see. You must learn one thing: the world was made to be free in. Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong. Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness to learn anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.” - David Whyte, “House of Belonging”

Portraits Boulder, CO-headshot and family portraits

A beautiful afternoon at Tantra Lake in Boulder, CO with Liang-Yeh. The fall is a wonderful time to do portraits outside in golden light and fall colors. Liang-Yeh is a pianist and created this banner for her portraits. Beautiful!

A very sunny day can sometimes pose challenges for portraits but the Boulder Creek Path never seems to fail me for some great light, sunny or cloudy. Congratulations Sara and Patrick on your engagement. Looking forward to your winter wonderland wedding next year!

Courageous Women, Fearless Living

A retreat for women touched by cancer, offered each year at the Shambhala Mountain Center in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. For three years in a row, I have had the privilege and honor of photographing a portion of this retreat. As a service to the program, I offer my services and images to these women. These women are the essence of courageous and filled with such kindness and love. The gifts received, far outweigh the gifts I can share. With a whole variety of stages and kinds of cancer, women can come together to be nurtured, educated and supported. From the website: "We will have an extraordinary team of experts who will share techniques in: Mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga sequences, traditional healing practices, integrative medicine and natural health and art therapy, movement, ritual, and more." If you know of anyone who might benefit from this retreat, I so strongly recommend it. The participants were so inspired and grateful to be there. It's truly n incredible support for women touched by cancer.
From a participant who has been there each year I have been : "Your heart touches mine, again and again...through your photos, through your visible joy in doing what you do and especially through all your "soft" spots. We are so incredibly lucky to have you and you have become such a part of what it is we are mourning, what it is we are touching or trying to, and what it is we are celebrating. You seem to capture it all and allow us to visit it again and again and again. Thank you for your incredible generosity, love, talent, good humor and sensitivity. I adore you. Ellen" Barb--Your pictures reveal so much about the program and also about your kind and generous heart connection! Thanks you so much once again for being a part of this journey with us. Love, judy You wow'd us again, didn't you sweet friend? I love ALL of these!!! am forever grateful for your generosity and your ability to capture the essence of this retreat as well as the courage, vulnerability, sorrow, and joy that abounds (sometimes through the lens of your own tears!). much love to you…L
